About Melissa McNamara MD
Melissa McNamara, MD, is a physician and board-certified Rheumatologist who currently owns and operates her own private practice in San Ramon, California. Serving the entire East Bay region, Melissa McNamara, MD’s Arthritis and Rheumatology Center treats patients suffering from a number of joint, soft tissue and autoimmune disorders ranging from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis to lupus, fibromyalgia, and gout.
Dr. McNamara’s undergraduate education centered upon the fields of economics and heath care management. Upon obtaining her BS from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in 1995, she embarked on a career in medical administration as the Philadelphia Disaster Specialist with the American Red Cross.
In August of 1996, Dr. McNamara returned to the academic setting to pursue her medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. She would go on to serve duel residencies in Internal Medicine and Obstetrics/Gynecology at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center. Directly following these two residences, Dr. McNamara undertook a two-year specialized fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Today, Dr. McNamara is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, the California Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. From 1997 to 1998, she also served as vice president of the American Medical Association at the UF College of Medicine.
Widely respected in her areas of medical expertise, Melissa McNamara, MD, has delivered lectures and keynote speeches to the Lupus Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation. She also donates time and money to a variety of local food drives, Toys for Tots initiatives, and orphanages all around the world.
